Jelly Slice

 Jelly Slice

When you first lay eyes upon Jelly Slice, you wouldn’t think this was a slot from the usually more serious developer Hacksaw Gaming. Get ready for cuteness overload with colorful jelly blobs and sparkling stars, all watched over by a cartoon character much alike Misty from the original Pokémon series.

Introduction – Jelly Slice

Slots like Jelly Slice is typically what you could expect from developers such as Play’n GO or specifically Pragmatic Play. Hacksaw usually has a more mature and serious tone in their game design, but have maybe decided to become a bit more playful in 2024.

Jelly Slice was released in May 2024 and is a standalone game, not based on anything else. The gameplay is rather simple and is built around the tumble mechanic where winning symbols are removed and replaced by new ones.

Decent winnings are absolutely on the cards, mostly thanks to the “Razor-Sharp” bonus round – it’s actually called that. They max out at 10,000x the bet, which is fairly common for Hacksaw games. Read on for a closer look!

Layout, payouts, and other info

Jelly Slice is played over 5 reels, containing 4 rows each. With no fixed paylines, the baseline is 1024 ways to win per spin. This number might however be greatly increased – a large part of this slot is built around symbols getting sliced.

This can happen at random, and every time it does, the numbers of ways to win increases. If you manage to hit perfectly, you’ll be able to get up to 1,024,576 paylines

You win by matching at least three of the same symbols on the reels, from left to right. 10-A make up the low value symbols, while the jelly blobs make up the rest. The red one is the most valuable, bringing in 10x your stake for five in a row. The game also has a wild symbol through a colorful star, which is worth 20x for a full line.

When you win, the tumble mechanic is activated, which means that winning symbols are removed. The remaining symbols drop down to the bottom before new ones are added from above. This process continues as long as you win, and makes it possible to win numerous times on the same spin.

The volatility is calculated to medium, meaning you can expect fairly frequent winnings on average. Available bets are €0.10 to €100 per spin, which is the industry standard. The max win is 10,000x the bet per spin, which is also a common stat from Hacksaw. The default RTP is 96,24% but there are also versions of the game with lower RTP.

Jelly Slice slot features

Jelly Slice is built around the slice and tumble mechanic, which is active on any spin. The game also has an attractive bonus round, and the opportunity to buy the bonus outright.

Slice mechanic

Go ahead and slice up those poor jelly creatures! Slicers can activate randomly on any given spin. They take the form of a shining razor blade and comes with the number 2, 3 or 4 on them. Every symbol passing through a slicer will be split according to the number, and are thus worth that many times more – much like the xSplit mechanic that Nolimit City use.

Razor-Sharp bonus

FS scatter symbols are used to trigger the bonus round, and you need at least 5 of them on the reels simultaneously. Up to 20 scatters can land at the same time, and you’ll receive 1 free spin per scatter.

The bonus round is mostly similar to the main game but has a few important improvements. First, you have an increased chance of getting slicers. As you’ll notice, this slight change makes all the difference. The extra slicers can also be used to gain many more spins; FS scatters as also sliced, and give up to 4 extra free spins per symbol.

Granted however, this is one of those bonuses where you still need to hit something to win. The potential is much greater, but it may also fizzle out into almost nothing.

Bonus buys

Jelly Slice offers three different options for buying bonuses. The regular Razor-Sharp Bonus round will cost you 100x the bet, which is the most common price for bonus rounds. You can however opt to either buy Slicer FeatureSpins for 20x the bet, or the BonusHunt FeatureSpins for just 3x the bet.

The former guarantees at least one slicer on the reels on every spin, while the latter simple reads that you are “5x more likely to trigger the bonus round”. Guess we just have to trust them on that!

Conclusion and verdict

Jelly Slice is a decent slot with some very decent win potential if you can get it to play along. With no multipliers to work with, this might seem like a big ask. It’s obviously still possible, but it definitely feels trickier when you can’t just slap a few 50x multipliers on your wins and call it a day.

This is where the slice mechanic comes in, and in a way, it does replace the traditional multiplier by making wins grow bigger. You’ll need to trigger the free spins in order to really get them going, though.

This slot might not be Hacksaw Gaming’s greatest creation but is certainly worth a few spins either way. It is also refreshing that someone steps up and tries to create large wins without multipliers. For the theme of the game, we’ll leave that up to everyone to decide for themselves.
